About the Conference

There has been and continues to be considerable discussion about recovery and recovery oriented services and interventions in the substance misuse field. However, there remains a lack of clear understanding about what recovery is and what it means to service users, service providers and commissioners. The conference will hear from expert speakers from across the UK who will emphasise that Recovery should not only belong to those seeking full abstinence but should also be an option that embraces all those seeking positive changes in their lives. This conference will be of interest to anybody who works with anybody whose lives have been affected by substance misuse.

"Recovery is Every Positive Change"

"Recovery means different things to different people. It is a broad and complex journey that individuals must take, at their own pace. It is much wider than substance misuse alone and can take many forms including; reducing risk taking, overcoming dependence and improving health, improving quality of life and becoming personally fulfilled. Recovery Oriented Integrated Systems of Care (ROISC) provide choice and ensure that every effort is made to provide the right package of support in order to maximise each individual’s chance of change and recovery."

Mark Drakeford
Minister for Health and Social Services, Welsh Government
